Hey, I'm Sophie
Role: project manager. A parent. An expat based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Several years ago I moved here with my family. What started as a temporary assignment gradually evolved into a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Netherlands wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The early months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more daunting than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Simple Harbor Lens
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or surface tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on insights gained from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Netherlands continues, and the learning journey goes on. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
Sophie
